I love coffee. I love the taste. I love the smell. Always have. The day goes more smoothly for me with a cup of coffee in the morning. It just does.
The truth is that before kids I drank decaf. I had a morning ritual where I sat down with my Kindle Fire to read the news or my latest novel while leisurely breathing in the wonderful coffee smell. I didn’t need caffeine to get through the day, just the luxury of a few minutes before I started my day to enjoy the taste and smell of the coffee.
These days, a decaffeinated beverage just feels like a waste of time. It is no longer about enjoying a morning ritual, but about providing a boost to help survive the day with twin preschoolers and one in elementary school. I definitely cannot get through a day without caffeine in the morning and at least three more cups of coffee during the day. At least I cannot get through the day without it and still be the kind of mom I want to be.
I am very health conscious and do not like my dependency on caffeine, but I am not ready to give up regular coffee while my kids are young. We all have a vice, and caffeine seems to be mine. It could be worse! When my children are a bit older and no longer physically exhaust me on a daily basis, I will try to go back to decaf. Until then, I will admit I am addicted!
What about you? Does coffee help you get through the day with kids? Would love to here from you!
